Mission

The Brussels Regional Informatics Centre (BRIC) is the public interest agency that aims to become the technologically neutral, competitive, reliable and high-quality partner of all public institutions in the Brussels-Capital Region that wish to take an informed and proactive approach to introducing innovative and coherent ICT in order to optimise efficiency on the one hand and improve the user-friendliness of the services offered to the people and businesses of Brussels as well as visitors to the Region on the other hand.

The BRIC may be entrusted, within the Brussels-Capital Region, with any mission of computer, telematics and cartographic development and assistance for the needs of:

  • local authorities;
  • intermunicipal associations composed of Brussels municipalities;
  • services dependent on the Government and Parliament of the Brussels-Capital Region;
  • public-interest organisations in the Region;
  • the offices of the Ministers and State Secretaries of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region;
  • and, subject to the agreement of their respective bodies:
    • the institutions referred to in Article 60 of the special law on Brussels institutions and the services that depend on them;
    • any person governed by private law subsidised by these authorities.

Position

Pooling is the common theme running through all BRIC’s activities and its spearhead.

To fulfil this mission, the BRIC is able to leverage to in-house assets:

  • in terms of human resources, the BRIC possesses cutting-edge IT skills through the non-profit association IRISteam asbl with some 400 employees. The association counts among its members around a hundred administrations and organisations active at regional or local level in the Brussels Region.
  • in terms of telecommunications, the BRIC possesses state-of-the-art facilities as a founding shareholder of IRISnet scrl, whose mission is the management and development of the broadband telecommunications network infrastructure of the Brussels-Capital Region.
