On 6 November, at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), the Institute for Environmental Management and Land-use Planning (IGEAT) is organising Be-OpenGIS-fr 2014, an event dedicated to free geomatics.

Co-organised by the association OSGeo-fr, this day of conferences and workshops will bring together scientists, administrations, private companies and those who are merely curious about free software in geomatics.

Eric Auquière (Manager, Projects) will speak on the theme “The use of free solutions at the BRIC: chance or necessity?”

For many years, the BRIC has in fact been using free solutions in various fields: document management, operating systems, websites, databases, etc. In the case of GIS, we are moving from a situation where we only had proprietary solutions towards a situation where we also implement free solutions. This talk will discuss the difficulty of this transition and the various obstacles facing us.
