On 7 December, the BRIC welcomed representatives of the six police zones, the federal police, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office and Brussels Mobility to carry out a full-scale POC or Proof of Concept test on the ANPR solutions (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) in contention for the regional Video Protection project.

At the request of the Government, ANPR cameras are to be deployed across the Brussels Region from 2017 to serve various purposes:

  • Police investigations and follow-up
  • Speed checks in the tunnels
  • Traffic management
  • Low-emission zone.

This test was carried out with two potential suppliers short-listed in the consultation process organised by IRISnet scrl/cvba (limited cooperative company) and looks very promising!
