Second DPO/ISA Knowledge Center session

On Thursday 6 December, about twenty data protection and IT security professionals from the Brussels-Capital Region met each other at the BRIC to attend the second DPO/ISA Knowledge Center session.

As previously explained, this initiative was launched in order to exchange experience, analyse the legal framework and provide a coherent code of conduct for all local and regional institutions who are faced with data protection and IT security issues.

It goes without saying that public institutions are also subject to the concerning legislation, however, considering the nature of their activities, they are forced to collect and share date, which is strongly reflected in their processes.

Topics of discussion:

  • Subcontracting in accordance with the GDPR
  • Updates following the new law of 30 July 2018 on the protection of individuals, which replaces the law of 1992
  • The consequences of security incidents or identity theft and processed to be implemented

Several topics will be discussed, among which: 

  • Data storage, archiving and destruction time limits 
  • “Is legitimate interest as a legal base in accordance with the GDPR also valid for public institutions?”
  • “Which types of data processing should be preceded by risk analyses and effect assessments?”

The ISA/DPO Knowledge Center sessions are exclusively meant for those who hold the role of Data Protection Officer and/or Information Security Officer within their organisation.
