Printemps Numérique

Last weekend, the first ever Digital Spring took place. This event was organised by the Brussels-Capital Region, under the leadership of bedigital.brussels, and in partnership with the Digital Spring of Montreal.

The festivities began on Friday evening with an opening concert. More than 40 musicians from the Brussels Philharmonic gave a live performance of several pieces generated by artificial intelligence, inspired by great composers such as Beethoven and Hans Zimmer. This artificial intelligence (AIVA) had also created an anthem for the Brussels Digital Spring.

Saturday and Sunday saw nearly 3,500 people wander through the KANAL – Centre Pompidou to discover the different activities on offer.

Several virtual reality stands enabled visitors to experiment with this technology: a paragliding simulator, a trip around the world, a science fiction experience, cinematographic immersion, … a whole range of immersions into the digital world calling on all five senses.

Various coding workshops also attracted younger visitors: creating computer games, guiding small robots, programming basics, etc. Activities for the whole family, thanks to the schools in attendance (The Coding Club, Code N Play, BeCode and We Are Coders).

Gluon was present with a workshop designed to create digital solutions with laser cutters and 3D printers.  In addition, Gluon put together an exhibition about the influence of artificial intelligence on our society.

Finally, a round table "A digital world: for better or worse" brought together Hughes Bersini, Ségolène Martin, Philippe Beaudouin, Nadine Khouzam, Alain Heureux and Léa Rogliano to raise awareness of the benefits and excesses of this new situation.

In short! Exciting and diversified activities, a public out in force and some great memories.

This first event was a resounding success and paves the wave for similar events in the future.
