The Government of the Brussels-Capital Region aims to make Brussels a Smart City:

an attractive, prosperous, sustainable and inclusive region where citizens, businesses, research and educational institutions, in close consultation with the public authorities, make use of data sharing in order to meet certain urban challenges in the context of a medium- and long-term strategy by rolling out services focusing on the user as part of a horizontal approach aimed at breaking down barriers and where necessary meeting the efficiency targets by using information and communication technologies (ICTs) on a local and a global scale.

The BRIC’s mission connects seamlessly with this regional objective:

The BRIC is the public interest agency that aims to become the technologically neutral, competitive, reliable and high-quality partner of all public institutions in the Brussels-Capital Region that wish to take an informed and proactive approach to introducing innovative and coherent ICT in order to optimise efficiency on the one hand and improve the user-friendliness of the services offered to the people and businesses of Brussels as well as visitors to the city on the other hand.

The BRIC is highly regarded as an ICT advisor and services integrator under the supervision of the Minister or Secretary of State responsible for regional and communal IT, carving out a position for itself as the trusted partner in IT matters for the regional, local and community authorities.

Both the people and businesses in the Brussels-Capital Region benefit indirectly from the services provided by the BRIC (IRISbox, Fiber to the School, Open Data policy, etc.).
