UrbIS-Fot

The UrbIS-Fot product brings together a series of large-scale stereoscopic aerial views of the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region taken during overflights of the Region.

The UrbIS-Fot product brings together a series of large-scale stereoscopic aerial views of the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region taken during overflights of the Region.

Several sets of photos were obtained during overflights of the Region in 1996, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2012, 2014 and 2015.

The principle of stereoscopy is as follows: while overflying the Region, two images covering the same scene are taken from two slightly distant points of view. These two images can then be placed side by side and viewed using a pair of spectacles designed for stereoscopy to give the effect of relief.

The aerial photographs of the UrbIS-Fot product are used to update large-scale mapping. The aerial photos cannot be superimposed on the vector data of UrbIS. To make that possible, the photos must undergo a georeferencing operation.

The aerial photos are not available on the download platform, but can be obtained on request.
